Wood, or rather MDF is a rather good material to make a 3d printer from. It dampens vibrations really well, is not sensitive to temperature or humidity (within reason that is), if properly designed it can also be quite stiff, it machines VERY well/easily, and it is CHEAP (12'x97'X5/8' is $3.90 at my local Home Depot). I have made several delta printers with it using believe it or not full extension drawer slides with MDF as the towers. You simply have to be aware that washers will be required for any fasteners and other proper fasteners should be used (particle board screws if you decide to screw directly into the MDF. as well take you time when assembling and use standard wood glue and a good quality square or 1-2-3 blocks to ensure that things are actually square. Just my $0.02 but I have had much better success with MDF and hardboard as a 3d printer frame than stamped steel (rigid but they tend to be made to a price point and as such tend to be rather sloppy in their angles) and acrylic is very brittle to work with unless you have a laser cutter. Again just my option, YMMV.
